چکیده

Recen t studies on cytoplasmic microtubules have provided evidence for regarding t hem as gel components susceptible to solational weakenings. Micro tubule s tructure in various cell types has been shown to be sensitive to temperature , pH, pressure, and other envi ronmenta l conditions (Masser and Philpott , 1966; Ti lney et al., 1966; Ti lney and Porter, 1967). In the present work, the sciatic nerve of the toad was studied to determine whe ther low tempera tures may also affect the integrity of neurona l microtubules. These microtubules were found to be sensitive to t empera tu re and not to be dependen t on the per ikaryon for re-formation. M A T E R I A L A N D M E T H O D S

An Electron Microscope Study of Spermatid Differentiation in the Toad, Bufo

The differentiation of the male germ cells into spermatozoa has long been a subject of particular interest to cytologists. In the period from 1890 through the first decade of the present century, Meves (28), McGregor (27), Ballowitz (2), and a number of other skilled observers made notable contributions to our understanding of the metamorphosis Of the germ cells in several vertebrate species. L...

Comparative Diabetogenic Action of the Hypophysis from Various Animals

Of all the anterior hypophyses tested, those of the human produced the most marked diabetogenic action in the dog with its pancreatic tissue reduced to 4 gm., and in the hypophysectomized and pancreatectomized toad. The human hypophysis also produced diabetogenic action in the normal dog on daily doses of 1.26 mg. per kilo per day for 2 days. The hypophysectomized dog with its pancreas reduced ...

An Electron Microscope Study of Spermatid Differentiation in the Toad, Bufo Arenarum Hensel

The differentiation of the spermatids of Bufo arenarum has been described from a study of electron micrographs of thin sections of testis. The development of the acrosome from the Golgi complex takes place in much the same manner as in mammalian spermatogenesis but no acrosome granule is formed. A perforatorium is described for the first time in this species. It is formed by a convergence of de...

Basal and amiloride-induced short-circuit current across isolated toad skin (Bufo arenarum).

We have previously demonstrated that amiloride (amil) addition to the isolated ventral pelvic (VPel) skin of Bufo arenarum toad induces negative short-circuit current values, which are equivalent to the isotopically measured net chloride transport. In the present work, we found that exposure of various regions of toad skin to amil yielded different values of short-circuit current (aSCC): negati...
